The Hare And The Tortoise
The Hare And The Tortoise
The tortoise and the hare. You know how it ends. Slow and steady wins the race — it is on a fridge magnet in somebody’s kitchen right now.
We have four strategies. Same starting stake each. Two of them are named after that fable.
We ran all four back through the last Bitcoin cycle to see which came out holding the most coins. The Hare won, by a distance.
And that result is worth almost nothing.
Why run a race at all
Everybody shows you a strategy that worked. Nobody shows you the three that did not. That is not analysis, it is a highlight reel — and you can build one for anything, provided you get to choose which one you talk about afterwards.
So we did it the other way round. Four strategies, each handed exactly the same stake: 0.21 of a Bitcoin. Each running its own rules, against the same clock.
And we do not get a vote. They do not fire when we feel clever. They fire when their signal arrives. If one is having a shocker it stays in. If one is flying it does not get a penny more.
Because the second you start overriding them, you are not testing four strategies. You are testing your mood — and moods have a terrible track record.
The rehearsal
The runners: BTC HODL, the BTC Swing Trader, the COIN Tortoise, and the MSTR Hare — one shot, no second bite, built for a parabola.
Through the last cycle the Hare finished top. The Tortoise came second, and not close. Then a long way back, the two Bitcoin strategies.
The Tortoise did exactly the job it was built for. It just ran into something faster.
So the fable is wrong. Round here, anyway.
Everybody’s backtest wins
Now the part where we take our own scoreboard apart.
Every one of those results is a backtest. The rules were written already knowing how the story ended — every trigger, every exit, designed by someone who had already seen the chart.
Give anyone a weekend and a spreadsheet and they will build you a strategy that would have made a fortune in any market you care to name. It will be beautiful, and worthless, because it was built backwards from the answer.
Everybody’s backtest wins. That is what they are for.
So the Hare winning the rehearsal is not an edge. It is not even evidence. It is a hypothesis — and the only run that counts is the one happening now, forwards, in public, with no chart to peek at.
