Bitcoin: The Boring Middle
Bitcoin: The Boring Middle
Confession time: nothing is happening. No crash, no moon, no big green candles. Bitcoin has drifted in a range for weeks and the timeline has gone very quiet.
But the boring bit has a shape. It has happened before, it’s measurable, and it tells us more than the exciting weeks do.
Where we are on the clock
Bitcoin’s weekly cycle lows come round a little over six months apart. The last one was 29 June 2026, at $57,800. The next window opens 11 January 2027.
Which puts us right about in the middle. The low is behind us, the next one is months away, and the market grinds.
Inside that big cycle sit smaller daily cycles, and one was due in the 3–17 October window. Update since recording: the window has now closed, and its lowest print was 15 October, at $79,800, inside the window. MANTIS hasn’t confirmed it as the daily cycle low yet. When it does, it gets judged on the date it printed, and we’ll say so either way.
The dips that don’t dip
In 2023, the year after the last bottom, Bitcoin pulled back three times: into March, June and September. Each one was about twenty percent.
Since this year’s August low, Bitcoin has had three pullbacks too. Not one has reached nine percent. Each dip has also been bought further above the 200-day moving average than the one before.
Opinion, labelled as such: for most of this year the loudest story was that June was a fake-out and the real bottom was still to come. If you hold that view, you’re sitting on cash waiting for a big dip. And when the dip is only seven or eight percent, you worry about missing it, so you buy. Every time someone buys a small dip, the dip stays small.
We can’t prove that’s the reason. The chart shows the shape. It doesn’t say who bought, or why.
The late signals
Two things have quietly happened, and they’re the kind that never fire at the exciting moment. They fire after it.
- Weekly RSI. Price made a lower low from February to June ($60,000, then $57,800). Momentum made a higher low. The last bottom did the same, from June to November 2022.
- Monthly DSS. On the 30 September monthly close it crossed up out of oversold, three months after June. It has done that after every four-year low we can find (2015, 2019, 2023), and never before one.
Neither can call a bottom. By the time they fire, the low is months behind you. But a signal that can’t fire early can’t fire falsely early. Both are now saying the same thing about June.
What could still go wrong
- Shallow dips have a cost. When every dip is bought, nobody gets shaken out. The flush that didn’t happen can still come later, and bigger.
- The 200-day can break in a bull market. In 2023 Bitcoin held it in March, then broke it in August and closed below it 59 days running. The bull ran anyway. A break is a verdict on the level, not on its own a verdict on the cycle.
- None of this proves the bottom is in. The test hasn’t changed: if the next weekly cycle low, due January to February 2027, prints above $57,800, June was the bottom. Below it, we’re still hunting, and the four-year window runs into March.
The diary
- 12 Oct → 9 Nov: MicroStrategy’s weekly cycle low window. The test from two episodes ago: does it bottom on its own clock?
- Late Oct → Dec (a scenario, labelled opinion, not a target): if the daily low confirms, a push higher would be max pain for the cash waiting on the sidelines. Resistance from the mid-eighties to the low nineties, where price has stalled before and where September’s rally turned back. Then the boss: $100,000, where Bitcoin has stalled three times. A rejection there, with the cycle getting older, is how you’d roll into the next weekly low, much like 2023’s slide into June. Nobody knows the future. It might just grind sideways.
- 11 Jan → 8 Feb 2027: Bitcoin’s weekly cycle low. The one that settles it.
